A subtitle can look like part of the image while still being stored separately. “Hardcoded” and “burned-in” describe words rendered into the video frames. A sidecar such as SRT is separate data; a selectable track may also live inside the same video file. Check what you have rather than relying on the word “embedded”.

Use footage you own or have permission to edit. Keep the source and, if available, the original caption file so you can make a different export later.
A flattened social clip may have large captions that no longer suit your edit. If you have its project, change the caption layer there. If you only have the rendered video, evaluate picture repair before adding a new style. Replacing the old line with another does not erase what remains underneath.
Remove an old burned-in line before adding translated captions in an editor. This tool does not translate speech, generate an SRT file or time a replacement track. Preserve the transcript separately and check names and timing when you add the new captions.
Automatic text removal has no subtitle-only selection box. It can affect other writing or logos. If a product label needs to stay, consider Remove objects with a specific description instead and inspect the label after processing. A prompt is not a protection mask.
Use a representative continuous shot: include a change of subtitle line, a moment with two lines and a gap with no captions. These transitions can reveal problems that a single frame misses.
Use MP4 or MOV up to 100 MB, 1080p and 60 fps. Start with the best-quality source and constant-frame-rate footage; convert variable-frame-rate recordings first. MKV and subtitle files are not upload formats for this tool. Changing a filename extension does not convert its contents.

Use the subtitle controls in a compatible player. If the line disappears, you have changed playback; you have not necessarily removed any data from the source file. Another player or viewer may still enable that track.
In an editor or container tool, exclude the unwanted subtitle stream from the output. Check the new file in a player. Some workflows can copy the video stream without re-encoding; availability depends on the container and tool. This is separate from AI picture repair.
Use image reconstruction when the words remain in the actual frames and a clean source is unavailable. Unlike a crop, it can retain the composition. Unlike a blur overlay, it estimates picture detail; that estimate can still be soft or unstable.
Keep the original transcript or translation and add a new track in your editor after reviewing the cleaned picture. Avoid burning the new captions in until you are satisfied with layout and timing; retain an editable project for future versions.

The original detail behind burned-in words may no longer be present in the file. AI estimates a replacement. It cannot prove the appearance of hidden mouth movements, small print or identifying details. The diagram explains subtitle storage; it is not a processed video example.
For example, a two-line caption may cover a moving hand during an interview. Include that moment in an initial evaluation and check fingers and skin texture afterward. If those details are essential and look altered, use a clean source or a more controlled manual repair.
Letters, outlines and caption boxes can leave different traces as the line changes. Check the first frame of a new shot and the first caption-free interval. Avoid repeated processing of an already repaired copy; return to the original and adjust the approach.

Not always. “Embedded” may describe a separate subtitle stream stored inside the video container, or words already rendered into the picture. A selectable stream can be excluded without image repair; burned-in pixels cannot.
There may be burned-in words, a second subtitle source or a player that does not control that source. Inspect the original footage in an editor and check all caption layers or streams before deciding.
For a separate track, exclude the subtitle data. For burned-in words, AI reconstruction can retain the frame dimensions, but the repaired area may look soft or flicker. Keeping the composition does not guarantee unchanged quality.
This workflow accepts an MP4 or MOV upload, not a platform URL. Use a video you own or may edit. Changing a platform caption setting does not edit lettering already present in a downloaded file.
